# 4 the wedding of bride Christine & groom Duncan

After 7 years together, on Saturday 10th September 2016 surrounded by friends and family Christine married her love Duncan in the garden's of Borgo Stomennano in Monteriggioni Tuscany, surrounded by homegrown vineyards, olive trees, a bamboo forest, a sunset over the Tuscan hilltop and dressed in a bespoke light reflecting golden gown. The wedding of Christine and Duncan is truly one of kind described by the bride herself as 'Cleopatra meets Michelle Pfeiffer in Scarface as a constellation'.

The magical ceremony transitioned into a night of great food, great dancing and a late pool dive for those still standing, clothed or not and all photographed beautifully by Leila Scarfiotti described by the bride as 'an honour to have had her by my side. Looking at her photographs of our wedding has become a daily ritual. I'm so grateful for her.'

We cannot agree more, we hope you enjoy this wedding as much as we have enjoyed exploring it and remember to hit play on their unique wedding day playlist below!

MARRIAGE TO YOU?

Devoting your lives to loving and understanding one another; supporting what each of you most want from your time on this earth; celebrating your love of someone over a collective lifetime. I think my understanding of marriage becomes more meaningful exponentially with time..every day..month..year we spend together.

Your day, IN YOUR WORDS

Celestial and exotic meets rustic and wild.

Everyone's happiness was palpable, and it was shockingly relaxing. We spent the morning having breakfast in the Lemonaia (lemon tree house), and sunbathing. The ceremony was under the shade of a beautiful old tree by an ancient fountain, cocktails watching the sunset, dinner in the bamboo forest, and dancing by the pool. We were so lucky to have a sun-drenched day surrounded by our closest family and friends. Couldn't have asked for more.

Did you include any special, unique, personal touches into your day?

Duncan and I wanted to include as many as we could... I'm an artist and designer for London-based Just Friends Studio, I designed our blind embossed invitations, made our handwritten menus onto little bistro-style sandwich boards, hand-lettered our wooden sign, and hand-painted our vintage paintbrush name cards. We also embroidered the initials of our 'Best Men' onto pocket squares as one of their gifts. The one for my father read 'dada' which is what we all call him. After receiving it, my father folded the pocket square over his pocket so that everyone could read it, and wore it that way the entire night.

A MOMENT TO RELIVE

When Duncan and I exchanged rings during our vows. I don’t think you ever forget a moment like that.

YOUR WOW MOMENT

Moments before our sunset ceremony, when I put on my dress and veil for the first time ever (I didn't know how it was all going to look until that moment), my mother walked into the room and was instantly in tears. It was an emotional moment that I love remembering.

WE are mesmerised by your gown, tell us more

I wanted my gown to look like a constellation of stars so whenever the fabric caught the light it looked like a completely different dress; a form of light or reflection. It has a plunging neckline, high slit, is completely sheer and completely gold with shards of jewels and beads allover.

I love that I was able to design my own dress with my dressmaker Charlotte Wilden (Wilden Bridal); and that it is a dress that no one else had ever worn or will ever wear. I had vintage necklaces from my beautiful mother and aunt sewn into the back as a tribute to them both, with a detachable tea-stained gold tassled fringing for dancing in. I love that it was a vessel for light made for me. Complementing the gown was the veil, made by the talented Charlotte Wilden (who also made my bespoke dress) as a gift for me with gold etoile lace flowers embroidered into a soft toile.

... AND YOUR JEWELLERY?

My mama's vintage gold bangles from Lebanon from my father...ones she wears every day / My hand harness from my best babe Jules, and the gold 'Jacob' body chain by Edge o' Beyond. My engagement ring was made in two parts: Duncan chose the diamond, I designed the band. He wore a simple silver ring, I wore the thinnest wedding ring in hammered rose gold.

HOW ABOUT BRIDAL TRADITIONS?

We ignored so many traditions lol...we didn't have a 'first dance'. We all danced together and all at once.

One tradition I'm happy we kept was being walked down the aisle, with my sisters as my 'Best Women' and my mother and father collectively gave me away.

YOUR CAKE, TELL US MORE?

We had an Italian Mille Foglie cake, with layers of cream, chocolate shards and a floral bouquet on top by l'Oste Gentiluom.

We all watched as they built the cake right before our eyes.

I remember watching my 'Best Women' stockpile plates of cake, glasses of Prosecco, and Gelato from the tiny vintage cart and then running to the dancefloor.

TELL US A SPECIAL MOMENT THAT YOU COULD HAVE NEVER PREDICTED

At 3am, my parents were slow dancing on the cobblestones, whilst everyone left standing had been pushed into the infinity pool fully clothed (or not)...it was so hilarious and amazing to have had so much fun with all the people we love.

HOW ABOUT BRIDAL HINDSIGHT, ANY TIPS FOR FUTURE BRIDES TO BE?

The emotion others had and how happy they were for us was stunning; there were things that occurred unexpectedly (but those are also what makes it the most memorable), and how surreally beautiful the significance of it all is. No matter what you do, how or where you do it, you are surrounded by people who love you and whom you most love, even if there is nothing else, that is enough.

...AND FINALLY, HOW IS MARRIED LIFE?

Blissful.

Duncan has always made me feel like he loves me more than anyone ever could, and he does this every day we are together. I don't know if there are words that could quantify how divinely fulfilling it is that I have him to look forward to at the beginning and end of every day of my life.
